Susan G. Komen® Announces more than $600,000 in Funding for Local Breast Cancer Programs!

Kicks-Off WrestleMania® 30 in New Orleans

New Orleans, LA – April 4, 2014 – Susan G. Komen® New Orleans will announce Saturday, April 5, 2014 that it will invest more than $600,000 in local breast cancer programs this year. Komen New Orleans will make the announcement at a special Grants Award Jazz Reception, hosted by WWE, which sponsored the event as part of its lead up to WrestleMania 30 in New Orleans on Sunday, April 6. WWE is a national partner of Susan G. Komen.

“We are so excited to announce our community grants, which will help us ensure that women throughout the New Orleans area have access to screening, effective treatment and treatment support,” said Lisa Plunkett, director of Komen New Orleans. “We are grateful to Komen’s partner WWE, whose longstanding commitment to serving communities has helped make this day possible. Our signature fundraising event, the Race for the Cure®, will be held Saturday, October 25th 2014 in City Park.”

WWE Chief Brand Officer Stephanie McMahon will serve as Honorary Chairperson for the event. Special guests will include Komen Board Members, WWE Superstar Titus and WWE Divas Natalya and Layla, breast cancer survivors, volunteers, and other community members working to support local women and men facing breast cancer.

The $610,000 in new funding will help low-income, uninsured and underinsured women of New Orleans receive access to critical breast cancer screening, treatment and education services. This year’s 9 grantees include: St. Thomas Comm. Health Ctr., LSUHSC Breast Ctr. and East Jefferson Gen. Hospital.
